The members of NAARS train through a variety of different training agencies. Some of the descriptions of courses available to NAARS members and the training agencies are listed below.

ALBERTA HEART FOUNDATION

·CPR Basic Rescuer Level

DIVE RESCUE INTERNATIONAL


·Dive Rescue I

This is the internationally renowned, three-day course in which participants learn to apply the latest techniques in underwater rescue and recovery. Dive Rescue I prepares public safety divers to respond effectively to water accident scenes and prepares surface support personnel to compliment the efforts of divers.
Course Topics Include: Public Safety Drowning Accidents; Selecting, Training, and Equipping Dive Teams; Scene Evaluation; Dealing with Family, Media, and other Agencies; Search Patterns; Victim Retrieval; Vehicle Accidents; Accident Scene Documentation; Introduction to Specialized Equipment; and Field Exercises.


·Dive Rescue II

Dive Rescue II offers a full five days of challenging, hands-on instruction in advanced rescue and recovery skills. Students will use specialized technical equipment, apply advanced rescue and recovery techniques, and idendify problems, hazards, options, and appropiate solutions. The class topics are chosen by the hosting department to match local response needs. This makes each Dive Rescue II a unique training opportunity.
Course Tropics Can Included: Sonar Technology; Swiftwater Rescue; Current Diving, Light Salvage and Recovery; Diving in Polluted Environments; Surface-Supplied Air; Dry Suit Diving; Helicopter Deployment; Water Accident Management, Boat-Based Operations, and Special Regional Training Operations.


·Ice Rescue

Ice accidents can occur at any time in virtually any part of the country. Public Safety Personnel can often become victims themselves. With a basic knowledge of ice and practical rescue techniques, students will learn to make safe and effective surface ice rescues. This is a non-diving surface rescue program.
Course Topics Include: Ice Formations and Hazards; Ice Strength Evaluation; Rescurer and Victim Response to Acute Hypothermia; Cold Water Near Drowning; Ice Rescue Equipment and Techniques; Ice Rescue Operational Plans.
