NAARS members are made up of police, firefighters, and diving professionals who volunteer their personal time, skills, and efforts to aid local authorities with Search and Rescue in Water Environments to help save lives. Members come from all walks of life, but have a common interest in helping those in need when loved ones are lost, or aiding police in finding evidence disposed of in water.

History of N.A.A.R.S.

NAARS was founded in April 13, 1994 by a group of dedicated diving professionals that saw a need for a professionally trained group of volunteers to aid in Aquatic Search and Rescue in Northern Alberta. There was at the time no professionally trained group to handle situations North of Red Deer, with the Calgary Fire Aquatic Rescue Team covering anything south of Red Deer.
